While the scenery at the event will be unrivaled, finding the perfect dress for a destination wedding is not always the easiest task. As the MOB, you want to be comfortable, but you have to dress accordingly with the bride’s dress code and the limitations of the outdoor venue in mind.
One of the best parts of an outdoor wedding is how creative you can get with colors. Talk with the bride about her ideas. We love aquamarine, turquoise, coral, fuchsia, lime, yellow, and orange. These colors are definitely unique, but suitable for an outdoor wedding.
You want something that is lightweight and airy so you do not overheat, and you want to be comfortable enough to easily maneuver down the aisle of the outdoor or beachside ceremony. You will want to avoid fabrics that cling to your body. Some of our favorite luxurious, lightweight summer fabrics are silk, organza, crepe, and chiffon. For some extra romance, definitely look into dresses with lace overlays and breathable slips.
You have to keep in mind - length. If the wedding is formal you probably will be looking for a gown, but if you will be walking down a sandy aisle or a garden path at the ceremony, find a hem that just barely skims the ground so that you do not end up with dirt or grass stains on your dress. If the wedding is more casual, you can opt for tea or knee length dress.
A shirt dress is never a bad idea for a warm wedding, because it just barely skims your body and you won’t end up with sweat marks. We also love empire waist dresses with long flowing skirts and strapless or halter style bodices.
It is a good idea to avoid pumps and heels at an outdoor wedding. If you feel like you need some height, choose a practical wedge or espadrille. Play around with embellishment, glitter, and beading on your shoes. You will be happier if you opt for stylish, comfortable footwear, so you can celebrate and dance the night away.
